Turns out it wasn't the cake that got her heart racing, but an engagement ring, which her sweaty-suited boyfriend "romantically" attached to a fork moments before harpooning it into her dessert. Cheesy photo taken with the watch, cut to him waking up on the couch alone, fiancé no where to be seen. Perhaps that's because she took off with both the ring and the FlyShark smartwatch he gave her for being "the one". Grinning like a Cheshire cat, he then sends her a text message that reads "Good morning, future Mrs. Smith!". Sadly no response, so it looks like the future Mrs. Smith has gone for good. Awkward.
The campaign video then ends with the words "We need your help and support to make the FlyShark a success", but what it should have said is "Unlike Abby's relationship, we need your help and support to make the FlyShark a success".
Cringeable video aside, the product itself does seem interesting although I am not entirely sure who in their right mind, other than those who managed to snag an early-bird deal, would buy one of these over an Apple Watch, or one of the recently launched offerings from Huawei or LG. Well regardless of what I think, the campaign total has exceeded its target, so the product is clearly of interest to a sufficient number of backers.
It should be noted, however that the team behind this smartwatch are the real deal. They already have a successful campaign under their belts (a folding smartphone keyboard), so there's a good chance that the FlyShark will be a contender. One thing that it will be able to do that many other smartwatches, including the Apple Watch, can't is make and receive calls without relying on a smartphone (providing there is a Micro SIM installed).
FlyShark isn't the only company that thinks it's a good idea to place a sim into a smartphone. For example LG's new Urbane LTE will enable a 4G sim to be inserted, and there are others in the pipeline such as the Neptune, that also removes the need for a smartphone.
For those that want a FlyShark smartwatch, prices start from $69 (£46) for the super early-bird price (the RRP will be $199 (£132)), and international shipping will be offered, when the product becomes available in April 2015 (estimated shipping date).
