The best way to describe RideOn is Google Glass meets Skully. Developed by winter sports enthusiasts who used to design helmet displays for fighter pilots, RideOn proves that augmented reality isn't just a gimmick, but can be used for a multitude of different (and possibly life-saving) uses. Examples include GPS location (avalanche), navigation (if separated or lost), entertainment such as gaming and video streaming, communication with other RideOne users, and sharing of content to social media.

The Israeli-based startup's Indiegogo campaign is yet to exceed its target of $75,000, but with 23 days to go, things are looking good!

RideOn will come with an app that owners will be able to download free from Google Play and the App Store. The goggles are, however designed from the ground up to work independently, but the app will add a whole new dimension to the experience by allowing interaction with other riders in the vicinity, and allow the wearer to share video with friends back home, and as well as stats, and location data.

RideOn works by allowing the wearer to look at menu options and the user makes selections by holding their eye position. It works in direct sunlight, but relies on a smartphone for connectivity, so your smart googles won't be so smart in the event of poor reception. An excellent features is battery life, the makers claim 8hrs of use, which is pretty impressive.

You can pre-order a pair for $499 (£329), the RRP is expected to be around $899 (£592) and estimated delivery date is September 2015.
