The company's crowdfunding campaign is now live on Indiegogo, and so far the little drone has been a big hit! With 28 days still to go, it has smashed its funding target (the current tally is $340,205 from 1,677 backers).
This sum, although impressive, is far less than the $3.5m raised on Kickstarter by the Torquing Group. Unfortunately having wowed the crowdfunding community by becoming the most successful European Kickstarter campaign ever, that company failed to deliver on its promises. Of the thousands that were pre-ordered online, only 600 Zano micro-drones made it into the hands of backers before the company folded. According to those backers their Zanos, priced at $250, could barely fly. It has ended up becoming such a PR disaster for the crowdfunding platform, that Kickstarter recently announced it plans to conduct an investigation into what happened to help backers understand what went wrong, and provide lessons learned. We wish the company behind the ONAGOfly a better future than the Zano.
