Half Russian doll and half ghostly egg timer. Let's face it this connected device looks a little weird, especially when its spooky eyes glow eerily at you. 'Mother' wants to take care of you by tracking you movements, coffee consumption and general well being.
She doesn't do your washing for you, cook your supper or nag you when your room gets too untidy but she means well and together with her army of little helpers, called 'Cookies' they do their best to take care of you.
Unlike with most pushy parents, however, you get to decide what aspects of your life are controlled. You can decide if you want Mother to monitor your sleep, your activity, or your snacking habits. She can also help you reduce your heating bill by turning off your connected thermostat when nobody’s at home and she can also help protect your house by alerting you of suspicious activity. She can let you know when your children arrive home from school and she can even incentivise your kids to properly brush their teeth. No need to set alarms or write down memos, Mother can even remind you to take your medication, alert you when you run out of (God forbid) essentials like coffee, and help you keep an eye on your most prized possessions.
Mother does all this by a using multi-purpose, autonomous sensors that track and analyse actions such as movement and temperature.
Up to a total of twenty four "Motion Cookies" can be connected simultaneously to each Mother and data is stored for a total of ten days so Cookies need to be placed within range of a Mother within that time period or data will be lost.
Mother sends alerts and notifications to the owners by text message, email, phone call, sound and light. All the data that Mother watches over is placed on a Senseboard, that can be accessed via a web browser or smartphone. Mother sorts through all the data generated by her assortment of Cookies to find trends in order to help you change your behaviour, if necessary. Unlike the kind of mother that takes pleasure in sharing their kids' embarrassing childhood photos on Facebook, this one jealously guards all your private goings-on by ensuring that none of the data she collects is accessible by anyone but you.
The initial launch will include 12 applications. MSRP: $222 for a bundle including one Mother and one box of 4 Motion Cookies. Once a user has a Mother, they can order additional Motion Cookies. 4 Cookie Pack, MSRP: $99. Mother is currently available to pre-order with shipments starting in February.
