Posted By Simon Montford on Nov 5, 2014 There are a growing number of smart home monitoring systems that are in the production pipeline or are already on the market. Some of the more interesting include: Branto, Rico, Mother, Cocoon, Notion, Kuna, and Campoint to name but a few. How Point is different is that it blends in where others stick out. Point's creators, Form Devices, believe consumers will prefer a home monitoring device that looks less invasive because it does not use cameras. They wish instead to take a "softer, more balanced" approach to home security, claiming that Point offers "peace of mind without compromising the feeling of home".
It is the size of the palm of a hand and has a very simplistic aesthetic, similar to a conventional smoke detector. It requires no attention except an annual change of batteries. Point can let you know about guests arriving, windows breaking, presence of smoke or alarms going off, which has become a standard feature-set of an increasing number of other smart home sensing devices.
