A San Franciso-based startup called Prana Tech is seeking $100,000 on Kickstarter, however with only 10 days remaining it looks doubtful if the $100,000 campaign target will be met. According to the company's CEO, good breathing and posture are keys to good health. By providing the wearer with gentle encouragement and reminders to sit straight and relax, it's like having mini Tai Chi and Yoga workouts throughout the day.
Everyone knows that bad posture can lead to muscle and join pain, but what was a surprise to me is that breathing can not only affect blood pressure, and stress levels, but also energy, mood, concentration, and even immune function. This little wellness gadget could, therefore, really help improve your health, so I hope it does reach its campaign target.
In addition to gentle reminders, Prana comes with an app that trains the wearer by offering two minute relaxation exercises in the form of a game that tracks and visualises breathing patterns.
Prana isn't the first wearable to focus on the well-being vertical. Other trackers such as the Olive and Spire monitor stress, and Lumo, like the Prana, also aims to promote good posture.
If you'd like to see the Prana go into production, you can support their campaign by pre-ordering it for $129, and the expected shipping date is July 2015.
