Rico is not the first smart home security device (check out Notion, Mother and Kuna) but it is the first to recognize that many people have un-utilized, previous generation, smartphones that could be put to good use.
All you need to do is insert your unused smartphone into Rico and it will measure: noise, temperature, humidity, motion, smoke, and carbon monoxide. Rico can also be used to control devices around the home that are connected to a smart outlet so it could be used for home security if a camera, mic and speakers were to be connected via Wifi, for example.
